ICAN Learn is seeking people from diverse non-English speaking cultures who may be working in a community services organisation and are interested in becoming a qualified financial counsellor to work with members of their community in financial difficulty.
The Diploma of Financial Counselling is delivered through ICAN Learn, a registered training organisation that employs sector trainers in your State/Territory that understand your needs. This Diploma of Financial Counselling is run over 18 months and will commence in October 2017. Learning will take place through classroom style face-to-face training, weekly online group training sessions and one-on-one contact with trainers, based in Melbourne CBD.
This course is unique in that it offers the Financial Literacy Education Skill Set (CHCSS00077) in the first week of the Diploma course. This enables participants to understand the roles of both financial capability worker and that of financial counsellor at completion of the full course.
The 17 units that make up the Diploma of Financial Counselling are clustered into topic areas including: counselling, financial and legal, advocacy, consumer rights and elective units. The course provides practical skills and knowledge, so that graduates can assist their clients with a wide range of financial difficulties. Participants will learn how to support clients in decision making, facilitate the financial counselling process, develop and use financial counselling tools/techniques to address credit and debt issues and identity systemic issues. Graduates will gain a full understanding of a client’s financial/consumer rights and responsibilities.
