ICAN Learn, the registered training organisation of the Indigenous Consumer Assistance Network (ICAN), is proud to announce a new Financial Literacy Skillset Scholarship Program, proudly supported by Recoveriescorp for the third-year running.
This scholarship program is designed to create real pathways into the financial wellbeing sector by supporting First Nations people and those delivering services in First Nations communities to build practical, job-ready skills. It reflects a shared commitment between ICAN Learn and Recoveriescorp to strengthen community capability and invest in a workforce that understands the lived realities of the people they support.
Why This Matters
Across regional and remote communities, access to trusted, culturally capable financial support remains a critical need. The ICAN Learn Financial Literacy Skillset equips participants with the knowledge and tools to:
- Deliver effective financial literacy education
- Support individuals experiencing financial stress or vulnerability
- Navigate systems such as banking, credit, debt, and consumer rights
- Build confidence to engage in community-based financial capability work
This is not just training, it is capacity building that translates directly into improved outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
A Practical Investment in Community Outcomes
ICAN’s CEO, Aaron Davis, emphasised the importance of targeted workforce development:
“Sponsoring the education and professional development of First Nations people and community service workers is a practical way of making lasting change and improving community outcomes. When we invest in people who are already connected to community, we’re strengthening the systems of support from within.”
Backed by Experience
The value of this training is echoed by those who have completed it. Recoveriescorp Principal Advocate, Hannah Cook shared:
“Having done ICAN Learn’s Financial Literacy Skillset myself, I know how important this foundation knowledge and skills are in the development of people within the financial wellbeing and associated sectors.”
